| Success Strategies for Creative Souls #80: When Things Aren't Working Out |
 |
What do you do when you feel like you have
tried everything and you are still not getting the results
you have visioned and set as your intentions? How do
you maintain your hope and faith in the midst of
adversity? Where do you find a reservoir of patience
while you wait for new clues and the manifestation of
your goals?
Basically, what do you do when an illness doesn't
heal, a house you are done with doesn't sell, or you
can't find a publisher
for your book proposal? Hanging in there during these
times often calls upon all of our inner strength and
perseverance. We try and try to follow our intuition and
do the "right" action steps and think positively, but
when the struggle goes on too long, we can lose our
belief in our goal and feel very stuck and discouraged.
It's times like these when we need our support
systems and some kind of spiritual/humanitarian
axiom to rely on.
You can also try the following strategies:
*Surrender to the fact that you are up against an
inordinate challenge. Stop struggling with the fact that
you are in this pickle and accept it on some level as
part of your path.
*Step back from the current situation and look into
your life history for similar situations and times you
handled this kind of challenge well. Also look for a
pattern that keeps repeating itself that it may be time
to change, like not setting boundaries or working too
much.
*Do some soul searching to see if there are hidden
fears about having your goal. If your book gets
published, it could be criticized, for example. Be sure
and deal with any fears you uncover.
*Get the best advice you can from professionals and
preferably more than one. You want to have people to
review your situation with and give you their opinions
and recommendations.
*Visualize daily the results that you desire but be open
to the prospect of a different formula emerging for
you.
*Above all, be kind to yourself. Know that you are doing
the very best you can to get your challenge resolved
and acknowledge all you have done so far and are
doing.
*Keep an active communication with your inner
guidance and intuition to help you to glean the truth
and chose the right action steps.
May the force be with you.

A Gem of a Memoir
As many of you know, I am on the Advisory Board of
The Room of Her Own Foundation in New Mexico. I
just read the new book by Gift of Freedom Award
Winner, Meredith Hall, called Without a Map,
Beacon Press, 2007. Meredith's story is tragic yet
triumphant and her writing is illuminating and
compelling. This is an extraordinary book of a
woman's journey from abandonment to inner
tranquility, positive relationships, and solid self-
esteem. I was very moved and didn't
want the book to end.

Light Your Passions
My colleague, Cliff Hakim, author of one of my favorite
career books called We are All Self-Employed has just written a new book called Rethinking
Work: Are You Ready to Take Charge(Davies-
Black, 2007). Cliff believes that your career compass
is deep inside you and can be uncovered after peeling
off the layers of fear and responsibility. This is a
stimulating book for anyone at a personal/work
crossroads in their lives. Available from
