STRATEGY FOR CREATIVE SOULS #15: Extreme Measures
**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**
So, it's the middle of January already. Do you remember what your
goals are? How are you doing with your intentions? In this season
of extreme temperatures and extreme make-overs, it is a good time
for Extreme Measures to insure that you don't end up with the same
goals for 2005 that you have for 2004. One of my goals this year
is to streamline my life, so I can leverage the power of focus.
This month I have been actively using my very own creative
strategy: "The Power of Subtraction" to initiate Extreme
Measures
which support my 2004 goals to enjoy life more and build a truly
portable business.
Some of my January Extreme Measures have included the following
actions so far:
1) Released 50 possible marketing opportunities from my collection
2) Postponed 6 creative projects to 2005–or maybe never
3) Ended 2 professional affiliations
4) Closed a brokerage account we don't need
5) Donated a huge pile of unread magazines to the YMCA (which I
just joined) for people to enjoy on the treadmill
6) Changed phone plans, then changed back, and ended up with an
even lower monthly bill
7) Hired a professional organizer to help me reorganize my office
and creative projects
8) Threw out 8 trash bags of old files
9) Canceled subscriptions to 3 book-clubs, 4 magazines, and 15 e-
zines
I feel freer and I'm just getting started. In this world of
information overload and infinite possibilities, setting
boundaries is a constant challenge. Therefore, our multi-tasking
heads are filled to the brim with too many projects, details, and
static. We have to learn to filter out the onslaught of other
people's issues and ideas and become super-selective and
protective. You must Subtract anything that you have outgrown to
pave the way for new growth and transformation and...your 2004
goals! Get out your Sword of Discernment and start hacking away
at
all the distractions and unfulfillments in your life, and do it
today. You need time and peace of mind to accomplish your dreams
for this year.

CREATIVE ACTS AND RESOURCES
**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**
A fellow coach friend of mine, Gail Kauranen Jones, has just
published her first book titled; To Hell and Back: Healing Your
Way Through Transition (Hats Off Books, AZ, 2004). Gail's
innovative book and her compelling personal story serve as a guide
to baby-boomers through four life-altering events: changing
careers, motherhood, elder-care and coping with death. By
exploring the challenges and the pain as well as the joys of the
change process, you will be armed to create a healthier, more
evolved way of being. One reader called this book "a textbook
for
going through transition" and I call it a "must read for
all
adults undergoing change." To order Gail's courageous book,
contact http://www.bookpublisher.com/.
A fellow Aries, Alice Aspen March, is presenting her famous: The
Attention Factor workshop on 2/28 in Los Angeles. If you are not
getting the kind of attention you want in your life, Alice will
teach you her new paradigm, and help you to: realign
relationships, be able to say "No" to people and things
you don't
want to do, and feel powerful, supported, and fulfilled
everyday. Contact Alice at 310-476-2084 to reserve your seat today
or check out http://www.theattentionfactor.com/.
Jane Dobisz, a recent connection of mine, is a financial planner
by day and Zen Master in life, and has a new book: The Wisdom of
Solitude: A Zen Retreat in the Woods. Jane dared to spend 100 days
alone in the woods and experience joyfulness and a vision for a
better world in the process. Her humor and her humanity light up
the pages as she humbly chops wood and does her daily practice,
tackling both inner and outer gremlins along the journey. This is
a must read for stressed out souls and people on the spiritual and
creative path. Available on Amazon.com and in bookstores.
Many of my clients worry that they don't fit into the traditional
corporate workplace or career path. To give you a new perspective,
read Carol Eikleberry's, The Career Guide for Creative and
Unconventional People (Ten Speed Press, CA, 1999). Carol offers
some fascinating stories of alternative career paths and 240
job/career/business options and a series of great self-evaluation
exercises. In this time of a shifting marketplace and the
multitude of opportunities for creative expressions and
livelihoods, this book can be a catalyst for new ideas and
options. Carol's website is http://www.creativecareers.com/.
