SUCCESS STRATEGY #4: YES, YOU MUST SELF-MARKET
**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**

"Without promotion, something terrible happens, NOTHING!" P.T.
Barnum

Especially in this economy, you have to strategize about your
target market and then connect with it directly, whether you need
more clients for your business, are looking for a job, or seeking
sponsors for a non-profit organization. In order to achieve your
Personal and Heartfelt Success, you have to decide:

1) What do I have to offer? You need data and success stories.

2) Who wants it?

3) What's it worth to them?

Self-marketing is about leveraging assertive communication skills
and overcoming the gremlins of insecurity. If you don't feel
confident and centered in yourself, you won't be able to convince
anyone else to partner with you. I have had the privilege of
working with many bright professionals who have trouble speaking
up about who they are and the benefits of their expertise. I teach
them to use clear and succinct language, laced with meaningful
success stories, so they can meet their goals. Self-marketing has
many dimensions, as every interaction we have with people
telegraphs our personality, compassion, competence, and values.
Learning to self-market is not optionalit is a skill we all need
to master. As this is such a critical success strategy and
deserves extra attention, this month we are going to use a
slightly different format. To read about how self-marketing
facilitates your success and how to do if effectively, click on
the link to my website for an in-depth discussion and strategies
at http://www.creativesuccess.com/articles/selfmkt.html. THEN
return to do the Challenge below.

CHALLENGE
**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**+**

1) What are your best talents and greatest liabilities as a person
and a professional? Which liabilities can you fix and which ones
do you just have to accept?

2) What is unique and creative about you?

3) Who or what are you trying to connect with and serve?

4) What is your most natural self-marketing style and where do you
need to stretch?

5) Set quarterly goals (as described in the Article linked above)
and put together an accountability/support system to help you to
meet them.

SACRED SPACES

In the midst of recreating my altar space in my office, I received
the gift of a wonderful book from my new publisher: "A Book of
Women's Altars" by Nancy Brady Cunningham and Denise Geddes (Red
Wheel, 2002). Adorned with lovely photographs of altars for every
season, personality, and purpose, the authors take you on an
intriguing journey of possibilities. This is a beautiful book that
you will want to keep with you to rouse your own creative process.
