CREATIVE SUCCESS NEWSLETTER, NUMBER 16-SEPTEMBER 30, 2001
The Positive Choices Series

A CALL FOR CREATIVITY
In the wake of the impact of the international shock of terrorism and
the continued threats to peace in the world, it is a time for each of
us in the world community to do some soul searching and advocate for
creative solutions to help resolve the underlying problems that
precipitated this crisis and ultimately protect human life. We each
need to urge our leaders to think strategically and try imaginative
forms of negotiation and potent persuasion. Individually, it is a time
to participate in generating solutions, whether it is lighting candles
every evening to honor the innocent victims of the tragedy and pray
for peace, or joining the CIA, or facilitating groups among diverse
people to stimulate understanding and healing. Creativity is about
innovation and connecting ideas in new ways to reveal better pathways.
The old ways have failed-we need to collectively birth a new world.

POSITIVE CHOICES STEP FOUR: I IS FOR INSIGHT

Since the attacks on New York and Washington, DC, I have led several
previously scheduled Positive Choices workshops. One of the exercises
in my workshop is to have people identify their Top Life Priorities.
Many of us live our lives out of sync with what we truly value and
believe, so taking the time to reflect on what we are expressing in
the world is a valuable quest. As we have discussed earlier, your Top
Priorities give you a platform on which to base life decisions. Each
of us selects different Top Priorities. In the aftermath of this world
crisis, my clients and workshop participants are experiencing great
insights into their life choices. I've had world travelers decide to
stay home for a while. I've had workaholics realize they are missing
their kids. I've had executives wish they were firemen. I've had
retired women realize they may need to go back to work and that could
be great. I've had others commit to joining one of the world peace
organizations or finally adopt a child from overseas. I've had
urbanites decide to explore moving to the country or devoted New
Yorkers recommit to their city. In the midst of the wrenching grief
and our loss of innocence as a free society, there can be unexpected
insights and creative clarity about our lives. In discussing with
people the impact of this world crisis, I am hearing that people have
been reaching out to their friends and families on a more regular
basis, working less, and taking time to pray or meditate about what
has happened. I am encouraging people to keep a journal about these
new insights in order to capture their wisdom before they get lulled
back into denial or complacency again. The following Challenge is
designed to help you to accelerate your process.

CHALLENGE

1) Make a list of your Top Life Priorities today and compare them to
the list you did in an earlier newsletter. What life choices are now
heightened in importance? How have your Priorities shifted or not
since September 11th?

2) In September, we looked at the life choices that you want to
resolve or Subtract. With your new insights, what now seems
superfluous in your life and needs to be deleted? What else do you
need to Subtract to make room for your new Priorities?

3) What is most meaningful in your life now? Are there relationships
or work goals that you are now ready to pursue more passionately?
